Grill'd or Any Other Company

That sounds like a plan Aleks, also I dont see why we cant be coming up with creative ideas that we can use for any company. I'm sure to attract the companies attention we are going to need some new and exciting ideas to provide them so while we wait keep that in the back of your minds and I will try and create a list of all the possible digital and non-digital platforms eg website, search marketing etc then we can choose which suits the company the best.

Grill'd

I tried to give Simon a call today about our idea... even though he intimidates me a little! Anyway, I kept getting voice-mail, so I simply assume he's extra busy or on holiday. I obtained his e-mail however, and will write a draft after this post and send it to him. I'm guessing he'll reply after Christmas.

However, my agency booked me for another promo on December 28th and apparently he may be there - this could give me a little opportunity to try score some points with him and propose to him our services :)

If he doesn't seem interested, perhaps I'll simply get in contact directly with their marketing department and propose it to them and say I'm 'mates' with Simon!

I'm liking this Grill'd idea more and more because it can span across all our interests and strengths (hospitality, web, technology - possibilities are limitless), give us a good insight into campaign development processes etc. Also, we are the target market, meaning that we can potentially offer something very valuable to Grill'd that is not easily attainable. Also, I know Peter didn't really like us doing freebies for an established company when they should be paying for it, but we could potentially end up getting opportunities such as spending a week in their marketing department seeing what they're up to for experience or whatever, or something else valuable.

So, whether it's Grill'd or not, I think a strongly-linked campaign as a part of a company's IMC strategy incorporating a website, a viral ad and perhaps something else could be the go. What do you guys think?

Meeting Two: Summary

The following points summarise our meeting on Thursday, 18 December, after class outside at Swinburne.

  • Group member introduction continued - we got to know each other a little better and what our interests and strengths are. We discussed the importance of using our strengths as leverage in our project decision.
  • Charlie showed an interest in Flash development and the hospitality industry, Bernie liked online communities, new innovations and technology and Aleks likes new, exciting concepts such as guerilla advertising, left-of-centre promotion and viral campaigns.
  • We agreed that we would use this subject to our advantage and that this project idea should benefit us in more ways than simply completing a subject, especially in terms of future employment possibilities. We thought it could be used for our folios, show industry/company interest or even possibly become the beginning of an entrepreneurial start-up or idea.
  • To ensure linking in multimedia, we first discussed what possibilities existed in terms of what we actually wanted to create. We referred to interests and strengths to come up with a few ideas of what we could possibly create: viral video(s), advertisement(s) (print/web), website, online service, iPhone formatted website or application.
  • The group also agreed that using existing contacts to help would be beneficial. Aleks suggested an acquaintance of his, Simon Crowe (managing director and founder of 'Grill'd') - a new-age, fresh and funky burger restaurant becoming ever more prominent.
  • Conclusively, we still had not settled on any one particular idea, hence we agreed we would think over the following few days and conclude our thoughts at some point online.
  • We also showed each other different websites and videos of things we thought were interesting and possibly inspiring and this also contributed to learning about each other.
Hopefully that covers our 'meeting' on Thursday. Add more information in another post if I missed anything.

Ideas

Just thought we should come up with a few ideas just in case the Grill'd idea falls through.
Although there is that www.60sox.org.au I think we could make a better site and there is potential to create an exciting personality for the website and execute a unique advertising campaign. If we are able to associate the site with an industry body or a well know company we might have an exciting project on our hands.

Just throwing out there, will try to come up with some more ideas

First Post

Hey Guys

Good to see we are already posting, keep it up. Feel free to post youtube video's, websites etc anything inspirational.

To answer the question of whether it's a private or public public blog. It's currently public. It's up to you if you would like to make it private. I'm happy either way, it's just that we will have to add Peter C to the group so he can check our progress.

Idea Generation

Charlie and Bernie!

In terms of idea generation, I thought it would be a good idea to ensure that whatever project we choose, it harnesses our combined skill sets. So perhaps we should write down all the skills we have (and also interests). I guess I'll start:

* Great with web pages (html, css)
* Love Javascript (but am not very good!)
* Great with Photoshop
* Good with Illustrator, InDesign
* Hate Flash :)
* Great with Logic Studio (Music Production)
* Great with photography
* Love conceptual thinking and writing
* I consider myself business oriented, esp. love marketing/consumer behaviour.

* Interest: anything creative, love technology and digital consumer products and all that stuff, music/production... most things actually.

I worked on a team of three for around 18 months to build a large service directory website and just finished recently. I did all kinds of things for them such as logo development, branding, site design, some coding, all kinds of print design etc. I'll try put up some screens later.

I've also recently started doing videos for a promotional agency I work for. The agency does all kinds of promotions and they've got me to go around taking footage and put together short videos for the website, newsletter and client. Nothing special really (link to video)... I used my shitty happy-snap in movie mode and iMovie.

I guess that's all.
